My Pet Peeve

People pay attention to your keywords! It's starting to drive me crazy when I do a search and all kinds of items show up that have nothing to do with the words I typed in.

I think what's happening is that people are uploading a group of related photos and then entering keywords for all of them even though some of them are specific to one or two of the photos in the group. (For example, a photo of an old phone, a photo of an old radio and a photo of an old clock, with the keywords "old, antique, radio, clock, phone" used for all three pictures). Other times, it appears that people have entered a typo ("car" instead of "cart") or perhaps have limited English and picked the wrong word from their dictionary.

In an ideal world, it would be great if the people who review the photos for quality could also take a look at the keywords and make sure they are appropriate and accurate. If that adds too much to the reviewers' workloads, then a way for people to suggest corrections other than just a note in the comments, would be great!

Until a better system is implemented, I just wish everyone would take a little more time and effort to make sure their keywords are accurate and as exhaustive as possible. Good keywords are the only way to find good pictures!

Thanks for reading my little rant, I feel much better now. :)

I know that there are keywords that are used in "Search" more than others and people have a tendency to add those words to the list for more hits. "Grunge" is one that comes to mind. There are lots of photos that just aren't grungy but there is the keyword.

I think it's just one of those things we'll just have to live with and hope that members who upload make a genuine effort to keep them accurate.

Asking the site to monitor keywords would be an enormous burden in addition to the duties they already provide. I hear you talking and, if it helps, I agree. An ideal world is just so labor intensive to maintain!

I recently did a search for "face" and I got things like wallpaper, patterns and textures, random objects and the one that pissed me off the most was watches.

I realize that it is called a watch face, however, if I wanted a watch face I would search for watch.

I'm rather new here, but I already noticed that too (well, I also noticed it on other websites, it seems that it happens every time people can upload photos in a batch)

I see that there are the words " Add / Fix" next to the Keywords category of each photo, but as it's not a link, I can't change anything. I guess I'm too new here to have the right to change other's photos keywords, or maybe only members with a special status can do that.

Your photo of the Little girl by window is truly inspiring. I would like to use this picture for a website specializing in publishing quality e-books for parents and children up to 11 years of age.

My website is http://www.brainycon- nections.com/

Hi, I'm setting up a new website for linking up families/carers of people with disabilities and want to use your photo: Family tickling each other on one of the pages (It would be the photo that accompanies the "Families Journeys" page. Would you permit that?
Many thanks!
