Don't forget to come back here and leave a comment. Thank you

There might be many information which might not be necessary in the tutorial but I just mentioned them for the newcomers sake. (Even I was one of them once :)

This is my first ever tutorial.
The presentation is very rookie but I hope you get the results.

The Photoshop file can be downloaded here

I would like to know your advice and opinions on this tutorial

Note: I have used one of SXC's Stock image for this tutorial and all rights to use the image is as specified by the owner.

very helpful. the droplet looks realistic!

62. posted by VinnyPrime, Mar 23, 2008 6:39 AM

Fantastic!!!!

I love it.

As a slight suggestion, maybe making the white dot a bit blurry (gaussian?) would help make it look better?

Either way, your drops look amazing. Great work!

63. posted by barunpatro, Mar 23, 2008 7:03 AM

Thanks vinnyprime. i'd say the blurring is an option and gloss reflectionsa are sharp unless the surface is a matt shine or any other surface where blurring would be appropriate

64. posted by moonfire8, Mar 24, 2008 3:34 AM

The steps look simple, yet the outcome is incredibly realistic! Great tutorial. :) I've been looking for something like this for a long time, too; most water-related tutorials I've come across before look fake, but this one is very impressive.

Excellent and most interesting tutorial, thanks and congratulations. I also like your detailed way of showing step by step how everything is done - no room for doubt about what you mean. I look forward to more of your instructions!
Best wishes

67. posted by elussich, Mar 24, 2008 7:05 PM

Great tutorial; very clear and to the point.

May I add another level?

After the whole process you still can add a little more of realism by applying a magnification lens effect to the drop zone (just like water actually does it).

As an example, this could be simply achieved by the filter Distort >> Spherize (a 50% amount I suggest); of course there are plenty more ways to do the same.

Cheers!

what overlay does in gradient/inner glow effects or when to choose blend option overlay?.

127. posted by barunpatro, Apr 23, 2008 6:12 PM

Overlay is like making an image look to be reflecting or partially visible on top of another image.

Example,

I take my photo , remove all edges and paste it on top of a nice sexy car pic. Than i use blend mode overlay on my photo. As a result you can see that my pic has become like a reflection on the car. I'd suggest U just play around with the effects. You'll learn more than i could teach :)

I know a PS tutorial is good when I can easily translate it to my photo editor of choice, PSP.

:) It worked extremely well for me. The water droplets I came up with were wonderfully realistic, especially on flat surfaces.

I used this photo by cjn for my first try:
http://www.sxc.hu/photo/642880

And here was my result:
http://home.earthlink.net/~ladraco/images/waterlot- us.jpg

Thank you so much barunpatro. :D This will really come in handy for me.

138. posted by ladraco, May 1, 2008 2:00 AM

Hey there, Barun... since I used PSP I felt the need to legitimize my claim that my droplets came out nice. PSP has most of the same functions but one does have to go about using them differently.

Thanks again!

PS
especially like the writing style... all this cool swishes and twirls with arrows and the font used for step numbers is just great :-)

@Barun RE: 139 - Tres cool. :) Glad you thought my attempt was worthy of the tutorial. I was really surprised and gratified to come back and see it up there.

I'm even happier that you're gonna try PSP. I do love it. My work has often been mistaken for work done in PS and it has some awesome gizmos so it's definitely worth your time to get to know it.

Hi,

Thank you for sharing your photos.

I'm creating a website for my new B'n'B in the Czech Republic and am considering using your bike photo as an inspiration image for what activities the guests can engage in.

However, the image is too small. I need at least 3Mb for my graphic designer to be able to work with it. Is it possible to obtain a good quality high resolution image?

Thank you,
