Edit photos with Photoshop

I'll try to explain how to make your photos a little more exiting by playing around in Photoshop and change the colors and smoothness.

First we need a picture for the tutorial. I picked one random in the gallery. The picture below is shot by wagg66.

Now open up Photoshop and start a new document with the picture.

First we wanna give the photo some smoothness. This is done by duplicating the layer with the picture (right click at the layer -> duplicate layer -> Ok.).

Now you have 2 layers, both with the picture. Select the upper layer and then go to the menu Filter -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur -> Radius: 3,0 pixels -> Ok.

Now set the layer mode on the layer you just made blur to 'Soft light' (the layer mode is found in the layer box in the top).

You should now have something like this:

The last step is how to change the colors a bit, in a nice way. We're making the photo allmost grayscale, but not 100pct.

Duplicate the top layer (the one you made blurry before). Now hit CTRL+U. You should now have a Hue/Saturation box on your screen. First select 'Colorize' down in the right corner. Then set the Hue bar at 210, Saturation bar at 10 and leave the lightness at 0 -> Ok. Then set the layer mode to Saturation and you would have something like this:

That was pretty much it. You can now add a border to the picture or adjust the light a little.

My final outcome:

Thanks for now. Take care!

Way to go!!!

I love this tut! You've just showed a nice way messing with images to create image effects.

Just keep your imagination running wild and experimenting....

Thnx for sharing!

By the way, no problem with your English-I perfectly understood your tut as it was quite illustrative but at the same time into the point!

Hi, I'm setting up a new website for linking up families/carers of people with disabilities and want to use your photo: Family tickling each other on one of the pages (It would be the photo that accompanies the "Families Journeys" page. Would you permit that?
Many thanks!
