I don't like both of the pictures...
The first picture hasn't enough contrast and in the secound picture the palms are very dark.

very simple, but the photo with the palms is not finished. Run a shadows and highlights on it first for the shadows, then for the highlights, boost the contrast a bit and you have a much better image.

I think the finished photo would have looked better if the plams in the distance weren't so dark, they look kind of blobby. but besides that- very nice.

even i didnt like this. The background is completly over exposed. u have lost the sky in this process. selective editing wud be an option. But i appreciate ur concern for other members by sharing what u know.

First up...when I first learned photoshop I kept on commiting the same mistake...SATURATION

It could have been better if the horizon/sky's color is also adjusted so that the dramatic effect you wanted to achieve would show.

the adjusted pic looked like it was obviously manipulated in photoshop. the color palate of your new pic is too much brown on the left and too much white on the right (on the part there should be a sky and the sea)

So always look at how the colors came out after you've adjusted your photo and compare the depth of the saturation with the other pictures form there you'll have a guage.

Although I have to say keep it up for using photoshop...Its just a matter of practice and eventually being familiar with the whole thing

Thank you for sharing your ideas - you should definitely be commended for that. I would probably have just adjusted shadows and highlights a little and then adjusted levels to improve contrast though, but all in all it's great you're sharing your experiences. We all need to try things out and share our experiences in order to learn from each other.

this tutorial is worthless. the picture looks very bad... that's not art is destruction.

I will have to agree with the negative comments. I don't like the result. It looks bad. I liked it better before the effects. The trees are far too dark and the whole scene has something unsettling about it.

Nice job on the tutorial however, it looks good and the screen shots are pretty clear.

Please just take out of the tutorial what you need, and thank stayjune for sharing his tips, rather than comment on his sample picture.

I really like the end result. Stayjune put dimension and depth into an otherwise washed out and boring picture.

I'm afraid you need to learn a bit more about photoshop and all its tools before you start lending advise hun. It looks nice to your eyes, but to an educated eye, it is unacceptable I'm afraid. Curves is quite a complex tool and you need to understand that each little thing has a specific purpose. Be careful; always make a copy whilst playing with photoshop as it is so easy to ruin it, especially with levels and curves which effect the exposure and pixels.

Thank you very much for your trouble though, you have promise, I hope that you will learn more about photoshop :D

Thank you for all the comments, both negative and positive ones. As I said I'm not a professional and I've to learn a lot from you guys.

Anyway, I just like to share what I think it's good for me. The picture is just *an example* of what kind of picture you can get from following *the steps*, which is the *main topic* of the post.

Throughout the steps, I said that you can adjust it until you are satisfied with your picture, then click OK. Of course, I did not say what value of the curve should be, and the result would depend on what you like.

Finally, I still love the result of my picture, and that's because I just like it (even though it looks ugly in the professional eyes.) So, you can adjust your photo to whatever you like with these simple steps too!

It's quite good but also simple... I think most of the people here can do it...
