Liars never prosper, cheaters never win

An arts collective calling itself "A Dose Of Light" had submitted 36 pictures to, and won approval to display them in, the city's ongoing Month of Photography exhibit. The group's fraud was investigated and discovered only after the photos went on display. A Dose of Light later admitted its lie, and said its works were meant to show viewers how schizophrenics experience the world.

The festival's inclusion of photos allegedly taken by mental patient Wu Xiao Kang generated two different controversies, according to The Nation, a newspaper in Bangkok. Some critics argued the pictures should have never been displayed, even if authentic. Others chastized the exhibitors' willingness to display them without authentication.

The festival director initially decided to let the pictures remain on display because she considered the photography good. On Thursday (July 5, 2007) she said she reconsidered her position because the festival's reputation was "at stake."
