"you should spring for the digital, and if you cant afford a great camera just go and get a 2 megapixel for like 100 - 150 and some rechargable batteries and maybe a compact flash card or something. Its a good way to get started I think. If you look hard enough you can buy a fairly good 3 megapixel for less than 175$ "

"Shooting with a regular film machine you will learn much more than with a digital camera, especially if we were talking about a total manual SLR camera. The problem is with your scanner not your camera, but I understand that shooting with a digital makes photography a lot cheaper :-)"
